    As an inevitable trend, AI-enabled education is shaping the new paradigm of education reform and development. AI-enabled education should adhere to the original intention of education, explore feasible realization paths, and follow the correct value orientation and law of thinking. AI-enabled education will form a ternary intelligent education model of teacher-machine-student interaction, which needs to solve four types of educational problems: person-to-person, person-to-machine, machine-to-person, and machine-to-machine. During the practice of AI-enabled education, it is necessary to grasp the development trend of AI, deepening the application of AI to comprehensively empower education in scientific research, teaching, learning, management and evaluation, the future of AI-enabled education should be implemented in the enrollment of academic and employment digitization project, the construction of subject big data project, the professional knowledge mapping project, the construction of digital textbook project, the decision-making intelligent assistance project, and the digitalization of the international education public service project of the six major projects.

    Coping with the social transformation brought by Artificial Intelligence is an urgent issue for the innovation in talent cultivation models. It is a rational and necessary choice for universities to actively respond to the severe challenges of the AI era by breaking the long-standing traditional talent cultivation model and innovating talent cultivation models in line with the times. Based on discussions about how AI forces universities to redefine their disciplinary concepts and expand the disciplinary developments, this paper deeply explores the necessity of updating the talent cultivation goals of universities in the AI era. It also comprehensively and deeply discusses the innovation of talent cultivation models in universities from two perspectives: conceptual innovation and path innovation.

    Advances in digital education are moving at ever increasing pace, driven both by the opportunity to further improve the reach and engagement of teaching, and by student choice. Every innovation has its opportunities and risks, and this article explores some of these innovations and the ethical use of Artificial Intelligence (AI), with examples taken from Queen Mary University of London and other universities around the world. The article begins with an overview of mixed mode education and proceeds to assessments of: Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality, and haptic technology. The author considers the ethical and effective use of Artificial Intelligence before concluding with a consideration of the future of digital education.

    Since the reform and opening-up, according to the needs of the Party and country, there has constructed a new pattern of talent cultivation in intellectual property(IP) with the law as the main body, the science of management and economics as the wings, the interdisciplinary disciplines as the complementary. In new era, IP higher education is exposing problems such as the insufficiencies of its talents training overall scale, the integration between science and education and the integration between industry and education, as well as the international law talents training. To achieve high-quality development and form new quality productivity, the cultivation of IP talents in the new era requires new concept of education and talents. It should meet the new needs of the new scientific technological revolution and industrial changes, the new requirements of China’s independent knowledge system construction, as well as the changes in the international economic and political landscape. IP talents training can be designed with the thorough mode of “X disciplines + Master of IP”, establishing industry-university cooperation training mechanism of “Master of IP + X industrial direction”, and piloting the training program of “Master of IP + X foreign laws” for the international law talents training.

    China has established the largest higher education system in the world, yet there remains a misalignment between talent cultivation and innovation-driven development. Based on an analysis of over 11 000 online job postings from high-tech enterprises, this study constructs a higher education talent model suited for the development of an innovative economy. Utilizing content analysis, it further examines the differences in starting salary incentives for various talents. The findings reveal a significantly higher demand for skill-based positions compared to research and development (R&D) and management roles, with R&D positions primarily targeting graduates with master’s and doctoral degrees. The skill requirements set by enterprises exhibit a hierarchical pattern, ranging from specialized competencies to innovative thinking abilities, with a clear complementarity in the skills required for different roles. High-tech companies offer higher industry starting salaries to attract targeted talents, yet the internal salary structures within these industries provide limited motivational impact on the innovative drive of graduates with postgraduate degrees. The study suggests that future efforts should focus on further adjusting the structure of higher education, establishing mechanisms for evaluating the value addition to students’ capabilities, and refining the innovation support and compensation incentive policies of enterprises.

    Top-notch innovative talents are the power source to enhance our country’s capability of independent innovation, and it is an inevitable choice for the construction of modern China to firmly follow the path of cultivating top-notch innovative talents independently. The high-level independent cultivating system for top-notch innovative talents has such basic characteristics as self-directed, systematic, scientific, open and international advanced, and inclusive and heterogeneous of the cultivating environment. In order to build a high-level independent cultivating system for top-notch innovative talents, four principles should be kept. The first is to keep goals, develop advantages, and do a good job in top-level design and overall planning. The second is to keep a high starting point and a high level of construction, and strengthen the core strategic position of research universities in the system. The third is to keep the efficient coordination and harmonious interaction within the system, inside and outside the field, domestic and abroad. The fourth is to keep the construction of digital and intelligent system and enable the independent cultivating of top-notch innovative talents with digital intelligence education.

    Interdisciplinary education is beneficial for cultivating college students’ interdisciplinary knowledge structure, interdisciplinary thinking ability and interdisciplinary quality, it is an important way for local university with industry characteristics to construct first-class undergraduate education. Addressing the problems of the lack of consensus on interdisciplinary education, insufficient interdisciplinary education resources, and the lack of interdisciplinary grip and system guarantee in the interdisciplinary educational practice of textile majors in local universities with industry characteristics, it is necessary to cultivate first-class talents through interdisciplinary education in local universities with industry characteristics by establishing the cultivation goal of diversified talent, highlighting the leading role of disciplines and majors with advantageous, adhering to the key factors of curriculum, faculty, and platform, and establishing a guarantee mechanism for interdisciplinary education operation.

    The national strategy has shifted to the development of regional university clusters, leveraging the growth pole effect and providing strong momentum for the revitalization of higher education in Central and Western China through “driving the whole area from one point”. Combining the theoretical frameworks of economies of scale and scope, knowledge spillover effect, an econometric model considering spatial agglomeration or discrete information is constructed, and the panel data of 82 universities within 19 provinces from 2015 to 2022 are collected to test the development of regional university clusters and the revitalization of higher education in Central and Western China. It is found that the spatial agglomeration of universities within a certain geographic range has a “point effect”, and the resulting economies of scale significantly improve academic vitality, scientific research and innovation, and its “demonstration effect” is characterized by the spatial spillover effect, that is promote the revitalization of higher education through β convergence mechanism. The strategic should focus on the “soft governance” mechanism, optimize the institutional environment for governance, free up teachers and researchers from trivial matter and give full play to the growth pole effect of regional university cluster development.

    Currently, entrepreneurship education in higher institutions is divided mainly into three modes, namely popularized, elite and supplementary, each of which has different targets, contents and functions. Since the 21st century, these three modes have made great progress respectively, and are also faced with the challenges of high-quality development, which are the problems including those knowledge-based entrepreneurship fails to meet the development needs of the innovative economy, entrepreneurship literacy training hasn’t yet been given high priority, and the synergy of the entrepreneurship education system needs to be enhanced. According to the new needs and the entrepreneurship education rule, it is essential for entrepreneurship education in higher institution to realize the transition from scale expansion to quality orientation, and play an active role in comprehensively promoting the modernization of society and human beings. On ideas and goals orientation, the entrepreneurship education should emphasize its humanistic value, advocate its diversification of value goals, and cultivate its quality culture. On system and mechanism innovation, it should build an ecological entrepreneurship education cooperation network, an education collaboration system centered on knowledge entrepreneurship, and a lifelong entrepreneurship education system. On training mode reconstruction, it should focus on improving the faculty entrepreneurial literacy, establishing a diversified entrepreneurship curriculum system and promoting integrated teaching reform.

    Mergers are an important tool for higher education reforms worldwide, but the related effectiveness assessment lacks empirical evidence by type and across time from the perspective of economies of scale. Based on the 1993—2016 education expenditure statistics of 134 universities, this study utilized the two-way fixed effect model, and found that mergers only had a weak impact on a few expenditure indicators of universities in individual periods on the whole. Heterogeneity analysis further showed that the impact of mergers on the internal fund allocation varied across the level of operation, type of institution, and disciplinary category. The “project 211” university-related mergers, undergraduate mergers, and comprehensive mergers all led to a significant increase in the total expenditures and some sub-items, while the opposite types of mergers resulted in a significant decrease in the expenditures, and the pattern of impacts persisted and strengthened after the mergers occurred. Based on the co-existence of economies of scale and diseconomies of scale after the merger, countermeasures such as comprehensively assessing the risks and examining the benefits of the merger, and strengthening the cost management are proposed.

    The scientific and technological innovation activities represented by the “College Students’ Innovative Entrepreneurial Training Plan Program” and subject competitions are important practical learning activities for engineering students. Exploring their impacts on the development of students’ engineering capabilities, it is found that participation in science and technology innovation activities can significantly promote the development of students’ engineering capabilities, and exhibit a dual promotion effect of “hard abilities” such as engineering design and “soft abilities” such as communication and professional ethics. Task challenge, self-directed exploration, faculty interaction frequency, senior interaction frequency, and peer interaction frequency play a role in promoting the development of students’ engineering capabilities. Among them, self-directed exploration and peer interaction frequency are the most important, with the former pointing to the development of “hard abilities” and the latter being the key to the development of “soft abilities”.

    Based on the perspective of organizational characteristics and individual characteristics, combined with cognitive-emotion system theory, a linear regression method was used to construct an integrated model of mentor guidance effectiveness under innovation scenarios, and investigate the influence mechanism of tutor guidance on master students’ innovation behavior. The results show that: the tutor’s guidance has a significant positive effect on the innovation behavior of master students; innovation self-efficacy and positive emotion play a part of mediating role between tutor’s guidance and master’s innovation behavior; from the perspective of organizational characteristics, the organizational innovation atmosphere perceived by master students has a significant positive strengthening effect on the relationship between tutor guidance and innovation behavior; from the perspective of individual characteristics, the feedback seeking orientation of master students has a significant positive strengthening effect on the relationship between tutor guidance and innovative behavior. In order to improve the training quality of master students, we should strengthen the supervision of tutor’s guidance behavior and pay attention to the improvement of organizational innovation atmosphere. We should pay attention to the improvement of the quality of tutor guidance, the diversity of tutor guidance function and the internal training needs of different types of master students and stimulate their innovation potential.

    Interdisciplinary doctoral training has become an important trend in the reform of doctoral education in universities. However, talent training in universities has long been fixed within closed and isolated disciplinary organizations, lacking an organizational institutional basis for interdisciplinary training. “Crossing borders and building bridges” has become a necessary path for the implementation of interdisciplinary education. A case study of top research universities at home and abroad found that there are three main collaborative models: “intercollegiate joint type”, “college led - interdisciplinary organization connection type”, and “interdisciplinary organization led - college participation type”. Under different modes, faculty arrangements, curriculum and research settings, assessment and evaluation, and disciplinary culture show different characteristics, and there are also differences in interdisciplinary integration. Universities can adopt strategies such as building collaborative relationships between academic organizations and granting autonomy to interdisciplinary organizations, setting up a joint supervisory group system, reconstructing the interdisciplinary curriculum research and evaluation system, and creating an interdisciplinary academic culture, etc., so as to promote the interdisciplinary doctoral training in universities.
